2022 was an exciting year for Dustin Johnson. Making the jump from the PGA TOUR to the LIV Golf circuit. Dustin Johnson and Team 4 Aces went on a tear through the summer winning 4 events in a row. They were the odds-on favorite heading into the LIV Golf Championship at Trump Doral in Miami. DJ has some course history here, winning a WGC Championship here while on the PGA TOUR.
The format for the championship was broken up into match play quarterfinals, match play semifinals, and team stroke play championship. The 4 Aces had a first-round bye which matched them up against The Cleeks in the semifinals. Dustin Johnson went up against Shergo Al Kurdi and handled him pretty easily winning 5&3. Laurie Canter defeated Patrick Reed 2&1 which tied the total score. The final match of the day was alternate shot between Pat Perez vs. Greame McDowell and Richard Bland. The 4 Aces team took them down to move on to the championship.
The championship match was team stroke play. The difference here was all four scores would count for the final score. Doral was playing tough Sunday, but there were gettable holes. Talor Gooch mad four straight birdies which help carry the team near the top. It came down to the 18th hole and the captain, Dustin Johnson. Needing par to win, Dustin made a five-footer to win the LIV Golf overall championship by one stroke over Punch GC.
It was a great first year for Dustin and the team on the LIV Golf circuit. The offseason is here and between prepping for next year, Dustin is taking some much-needed time off.
